INTENSIVE SUMMER COURSE
GRADES 7 - 12
July 5 – 28
Profile: This will be an intensive
course of study offered to students in grades 7-12. This
course will cover all language skills. The approach will be
holistic and work on language skills will be interrelated.
This will be a multi-level course with requirements based on
students’ needs.
Objectives: At the conclusion of the course, students
should have a better handle on the fundamentals of the English
language. They should also have a better mastery of all
language skills (Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing.)
Materials: The students will be reading a variety of
content based authentic materials: literature, history,
science, and social studies. The readings will be the core
for working on other skills.
Methodology: Students will be fully engaged in the learning
process, they will read, discuss and analyze the material.
They will make oral presentations and they will write about
some aspect of what they have read. Students will be asked to
summarize, present an opinion and/or compare and contrast.
Assessment: Students will be continually tested. Passing this
course will earn them one credit. A placement test will be
administered at the end of the course. Students’ performance
on this test will determine their level in the coming school
year.
Administrative Notes:
Classes will be conducted between 9:00
a.m and 2:00p.m. Students are responsible for bringing their
own lunches. Transportation is the responsibility of the
parents.
Cost: $ 500 per student
