Physical Education and Health Department
provides a program of education by which an individual may develop
mentally as well as physically and leisure skills neccessary to
maintain healthy and satisfying lifestyles.
The program consists of required
and elective courses and activities designed to meet the present
and future physical and recreational needs of students.
Our department's goal is to influence
every student by allowing him the opportunity to participate in
the Physical education class.
We recognize and accept our responsibility
to develop in the students the importance of physical fitness and
healthy living standards in their lives.
All students participate in the Presidential
Physical Fitness Testing Program at the beginning of the school
year.
Physical Education Department Goals
- Teaching the students rules, regulations, and basic knowledge
of different sports activities.
- To assist the student in achieving their potential in their
physical well being in their present lives.
- To help and teaching the student leisure sports that will
carry over after high school.
- To help and encourage student involvement in interscholastic
sports.
- To help and encourage student involvement in intramural sports.
- To help students develop attitudes which will assist them
in adjusting to the challenges of life.
- To help students develop the traits of character which will
focus on respect for individual rights in a global society with
multi-cultural differences.
ISA High School Health
The ISA health education program is a one semester program
taught by the PE/Health department usually to 9th and 10th grade
students. It is required for graduation. The students are required
to read the lessons, participate in class discussions and class
activities. They are also asked to turn in homework assigned for
each lesson and/or chapter, and in some areas present a project,
i.e. poster, demonstration, and/or research paper. By meeting these
requirements the student will have a greater understanding of how
they can improve their health, avoid undue risks, and what effects
certain decisions have on their health.

Goals of the Health Department
- To enable students to understand the benefit of exercise
and how to develop a personal exercise program.
- To enable students to understand the methods/causes, symptoms,
and treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
- To help students identify the different food groups, the
benefits of eating healthy, and the concept of the food pyramid.
- To enable students to understand the health pyramid and
how physical, mental, and social health correlate and effect each
other.
- To enable students to understand the life cycle from conception
to death.
- To enable students to respond correctly in an emergency
situation.
- To help students learn basic CPR, first aid, and safety
techniques.
- To enable students to be aware of the affects of alcohol,
tobacco, and drugs- and addiction to them.
- To enable students to understand how to deal with stress,
peer pressure, and emotions.
- To enable students to understand the importance of good
personal cleanliness.
- To enable students to understand the negative effects of
food addictions and food diseases, i.e. bulimia.
- To enable students to understand how the environment affects
their health and what precautions can be taken to prevent problems.
- To familiarize students with the different consumer health
services and how they can benefit from them.
